The L&D Conference 2020
CrowdThinking Project
Professionalization and effectiveness in Learning and Development
The L&D Conference is a conference, but we hope for you that it becomes more than a conference. We hope it disrupts the staid and tired rituals that have gone before—in a good way—providing, at least with some small steps, a new beginning for the L&D field, a way to reimagine who we are as learning professionals—a way to help us reinvigorate ourselves, challenge ourselves, enable ourselves to enact our promise as creators and architects of learning-and-performance solutions.
As part of our efforts, the L&D Conference is engaging in a CrowdThinking initiative, gathering insights from L&D professionals world-wide toward a future vision on how to further professionalize our field. We are using a two-pronged approach, crowdsourcing perspectives from a set of precision-guided questions on seven factors impacting our professionalization and effectiveness (open to anyone below), and engaging during the conference (over six weeks from June 22 to July 31) in a modified world-café-style initiative of dialogue and community. By combining these threads—the survey and the intimate dialogue—we hope to create a deeper CrowdThinking experience. The near-term result of this initiative will be a report or reports to support the L&D industry.
We ask you to please contribute, by taking the survey below (and by sharing this webpage with everyone you know in L&D), by joining us at the conference in dialogue, and/or by getting the report (sign up below) and advocating for the recommendations that arise from the gathered wisdom brought forth from your perspectives and those of your fellow learning-and-performance professionals.
First thing: Please complete the survey by clicking on the button below.
Second thing: Please share this page with every L&D professional you know.
Above-and-beyond-thing: Go to LinkedIn, look through your connections, send them a note.
How it works
Step 1: Assess
As learning professionals, we know that learning starts with an openness to ideas, with self-reflection, with an honest reckoning.
We begin with a survey to aid in our efforts. We invite every L&D professional to join in and you can do so using the buttons below.
Step 2: Gather
As many as can will gather at the L&D Conference 2020, starting on June 22nd and going through to July 31st, to mine our own experiences and perspectives for wisdom on our professionalization and effectiveness. Using a modified World-Cafe-Style dialogue, we will dig deep and learn from the collective efforts of our fellow L&D professionals, gathering with old friends and new.
Step 3: Grow
From our collective wisdom, we will bring forth a plan for the future of L&D, one inspired by a broad look at multiple factors that affect our personal and organizational effectiveness.
We’ll put together reports which can be used to help further define your strategies and better understand what the future of learning looks like.
